Job Interview Advice & Tips

Getting Prepared

  • Our most important piece of interview advice is to prepare, prepare, prepare.

  • Know who is interviewing you and their position.

  • Research the company. Look at the "Latest News" on their website, in the press and on the internet in general.

  • Understand the culture of the organisation - again their website will give you some pointers, you could even contact other employees.

  • Make sure you know the content of your CV.

  • Be prepared to answer typical interview questions about your working background.

  • Have answers prepared for the behavioural or competency based interview questions. (Real examples)

  • Prepare a set of questions for the interviewer.

  • Control your nervous energy through breathing.

Presenting Yourself

  • A smart suit will always give the impression that you are serious about the position. Don't dress to match the office dress code if it is casual, show the interviewer you are serious.

  • Remember that you are being observed from the moment you step onto the premises, so build rapport and create a good impression.

  • Remain focused before the job interview starts. Remind yourself you are right for the position.

  • Speak clearly and concisely. Be mindful of how fast you are talking. Give them enough time to make good notes.

  • Smile and make eye contact with your interviewer(s) throughout the job interview.

  • Remain positive at all times. Even if you had a difficult journey, don't mention it, just stick to positive conversation throughout your job interview.
